Environment is known to be the situations, events, people and other things
that influences the way we live or work. It could be what surrounds a
thing, for instance, physical element or natural environment.

Malaysia is recently seen as a nation in its twilight as a transitional nation with world class cities. However, there are several factors opposing its serene environmental sustainability. It ranges from influx of ill mannered people from their neighboring countries, inadequate refuse disposal, inefficiency in replacing worn-out refuse bin, and insufficient awareness on environmental cleanliness.

Kuala Lumpur is s among the fastest growing metropolitan regions in the Asian Continent, in terms of population and economy, the federal capital, and most populous city in Malaysia. The city covers an area of 243 km2 (94 sq mi), has an estimate of 1.6 million.Despite its status, a lot need to be done to sustain its environmental friendly nature.

Rated as an alpha world city, Kuala Lumpur is the cultural, financial and economic centre of Malaysia due to its position as the capital as well as being a key city. Besides, Kuala Lumpur was ranked 48th among global cities by Foreign Policy's 2010 Global Cities and was ranked 67th among global cities for economic and social innovation by the 2thinknow Innovation Cities Index in 2010.

The city has played host to many international sporting, political and cultural events including the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the Formula One World Championship. In addition, Kuala Lumpur is home to the tallest twin buildings in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers, which have become an iconic symbol of Malaysia's futuristic developments.

Besides, unlike Singapore as a world class nation, the country Malaysia gave birth to, is doing everything to sustain and maintain the orderliness and their environmental friendliness. Malaysia is yet to imbibe that habit. Maintenance culture is the only way to retain the taste as an alpha nation among its cities especially Kuala Lumpur.

SEGiNews Daily was on tour around Kota Raya axis,  we were shock to discover wet, slimy and stinking  rubbishes mostly from  restaurants. "This  is another threatening vices. Sadly, it feed rats, which has turn Kuala Lumpur to a  city of rats" said by Uzoma Victor.

We found almost six places that dirty dishes are washed in big basins of water to be sent back to the restaurant outlets for customer use. At every corner is a rubbish bin available but people throw their bags of rubbish carelessly. As a result, the waste lay open outside the bin, thus creating more mess and stink.

The condition became worse when rats scurry along the drains and feast on the leftovers and open rubbish bags along the walk lanes. The unfortunate side is that this scenarios have escaped the eyes of the authorities in charge.

Adequate measures need to be putting in place to checkmate these ills. Government however got a whole lots of work to do to sustain their place. Maintenance system becomes a key tool to achieve such environmental sustainability.  Also, for their cities to be  healthy places for tourists and citizens alike to dwell.
